Writing my “On Community” essay was a mix of fun and frustration. I knew right away that I wanted to write about the car community because I love it. The idea came easily, but putting my thoughts into words and making everything flow was harder than I expected.
I didn’t plan out my essay with an outline—I just started writing. I got all my ideas down in one go and then went back to fix things. This worked because I didn’t overthink it, but it also meant I had to spend more time editing. If I had planned it out better, maybe it would have been easier to organize my ideas.
One thing I really like about my essay is that it feels personal. I think my passion for cars comes through in my writing. I also like that I didn’t just focus on the good parts—I talked about the negatives too, like how some people in the car community can be judgmental. I wanted to be honest about my experience.
The peer workshop helped me a lot. My classmates pointed out that some of my sentences were too long or confusing, so I worked on making them clearer. They also told me my conclusion felt a little weak, so I spent time making sure my essay ended more effectively.
If I had more time, I’d work on making my ideas flow better. Some parts still feel a little rushed, and I think I could add more details to make my points stronger.
Going forward, I want to be better at planning my writing. I like writing freely, but having a simple outline might save me time later. I also want to work on making my sentences easier to read. Overall, this essay taught me a lot about my writing process, and I feel like I’m getting better at putting my thoughts into words.
